A Little Bookish Music Fundraiser

Join Best of Books, host Joelle Charbonneau and other talented musician-authors for the virtual “A Little Bookish Music Fundraising Concert” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, on Facebook Live.

Charbonneau, author of THE TESTING series and VERIFY, will lead several of our favorite authors and friends as they sing, perform songs and poetry, and talk about all things books while helping us raise money for the bookstore.

Joe Hight, owner of Best of Books and an author himself, will introduce Charbonneau to begin the evening concert. (It’s also Joe’s birthday, but don’t tell anyone.)

During the concert, you will be able to buy the authors’ books and donate to Best of Books to help it continue operations and make needed improvements.

Check out some of the authors who will be participating below. We'll announce more authors over the next couple of weeks, so watch our Facebook page!

Our Greatest Journalists

The story of Oklahoma, the nation, and the world has been chronicled through the decades by men and women of diverse backgrounds and interests whose devotion to spreading the word has been recognized by the Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame.

In Our Greatest Journalists: Fifty Years of the Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame, you will learn about the 468 inductees to date and those who have been award the organization's Lifetime Achievement Award. In all, more than 25 writers contributed to this book. Countless others contributed photographs. Most are Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame members themselves, connected closely to a fellow member or yearning to learn more about one they admire. Each had personal connections to the stories they told.

You will read not only about the history of the Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame, but also how its members helped shape Oklahoma's rich history. Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame members had many defining moments in their careers, from the assassination of John F. Kennedy and Watergate to the Penn Square Bank collapse and the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in downtown Oklahoma City.

Most of all you will read about how the members of the Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame embody the pioneering spirit in their own lives. Enough of the spirit to be chosen for Oklahoma's highest journalistic honor and their legacies forever remembered.

If you're in the Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame, please call the store for a special price. 405-340-9202.

(Proceeds from sales of this book will go to two funds: The Coronavirus Storytelling Project to help furloughed or displaced journalists or those in struggling news organizations. And the COVID-19 Emergency Relief Fund to help University of Central Oklahoma students struggling financially because of the pandemic.)
