Tom Clavin Virtual Event

Join us in conversation with Tom Clavin as we discuss his newest book, TOMBSTONE: The Earp Brothers, Doc Holiday, and The Vendetta Ride From Hell.

This is a free event and will stream via BoB's Facebook Live.

TOM CLAVIN was born in the Bronx and grew up on Long Island. After studies at Suffolk County Community College, University of Southern California, SUNY Albany, and SUNY Stony Brook, he finally got out with Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in English and Literature.

In the newspaper business, Tom was a reporter for The New York Times, served as managing editor at The East Hampton Star, was the editor-in-chief of The Independent group of weekly newspapers, and was a columnist and contributing writer at the Express News Group on eastern Long Island. He wrote for several prominent magazines on a variety of topics, including Men’s Journal, Smithsonian, Parade, Reader’s Digest, Golf, Cosmopolitan, and Manhattan. He has received awards from the Society of Professional Journalists, Marine Corps Heritage Foundation, and National Newspaper Association.

Four of his books have been New York Times best sellers: Dodge City, The Heart of Everything That Is, Halsey’s Typhoon, and The Last Stand of Fox Company. Other recent titles that have received popular and critical acclaim include The DiMaggios, Lucky 666, Last Men Out, Gil Hodges, Roger Maris, Being Ted Williams, and Reckless. The trade paperback edition of Valley Forge, co-authored with Bob Drury and published by Simon and Schuster, was released in November 2019, and the trade paperback edition of Wild Bill was published by St. Martin’s Press in February 2019. Co-authored with Phil Keith and published in hardcover by Hanover Square Press last November was All Blood Runs Red. And this past April -- to much acclaim! -- St. Martin's Press published Tombstone, which completes the "Frontier Lawmen" trilogy.

By the way, The Heart of Everything That Is, Dodge City, The Last Stand of Fox Company, and All Blood Runs Red are being developed as screen projects. Also in development is an original limited series project, Custer, about the famous "boy general."

Tom is a full-time resident of Sag Harbor.

Our Greatest Journalists

$39.95
Description:

The story of Oklahoma, the nation, and the world has been chronicled through the decades by men and women of diverse backgrounds and interests whose devotion to spreading the word has been recognized by the Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame.

In Our Greatest Journalists: Fifty Years of the Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame, you will learn about the 468 inductees to date and those who have been award the organization's Lifetime Achievement Award. In all, more than 25 writers contributed to this book. Countless others contributed photographs. Most are Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame members themselves, connected closely to a fellow member or yearning to learn more about one they admire. Each had personal connections to the stories they told.

You will read not only about the history of the Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame, but also how its members helped shape Oklahoma's rich history. Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame members had many defining moments in their careers, from the assassination of John F. Kennedy and Watergate to the Penn Square Bank collapse and the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in downtown Oklahoma City.

Most of all you will read about how the members of the Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame embody the pioneering spirit in their own lives. Enough of the spirit to be chosen for Oklahoma's highest journalistic honor and their legacies forever remembered.

If you're in the Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame, please call the store for a special price. 405-340-9202.

(Proceeds from sales of this book will go to two funds: The Coronavirus Storytelling Project to help furloughed or displaced journalists or those in struggling news organizations. And the COVID-19 Emergency Relief Fund to help University of Central Oklahoma students struggling financially because of the pandemic.)
