About the authors:
TAMMI SAUER is a full-time children's book author who presents at schools and conferences across the nation. She is the author of numerous picture books, including Wordy Birdy, Cowboy Camp, Chicken Dance, Nugget & Fang, and Mary Had a Little Glam. In addition to winning awards, Tammi's books have gone on to do great things: Chicken Dance: The Musical is currently on a national tour, and Your Alien, an NPR Best Book of 2015, has been published in Italian, Spanish, Korean, and French. Gaye Sanders is a teacher in Oklahoma who has always found a way to teach the story of the Oklahoma City bombing to her fourth-grade students as a way of ensuring we never forget what hate can wrought. This is her first book. Illustrator Pamela Behrend is a classically trained musician, former music teacher, and now studio artist who makes her home in Pennsylvania. "The Survivor Tree" is her first book as well.
Brenda Maier's debut picture book, The Little Red Fort, was called "inspired" by the Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books in a starred review, and was named a Chicago Public Library Best Book of the Year, a Bank Street College Best Children's Book of the Year, and winner of One Book for Colorado. Brenda is a public school teacher and a gifted education specialist. When she isn't writing, Brenda enjoys traveling with her family, baking peanut-free cookies, and watching her five children build amazing creations from found materials.
